Description Modular Sizing Die – BRA Our new Modular Sizing Dies fit a family of cartridges. The Modular Sizing Die – BRA works seamlessly with rifles chambered based on a standard BRA reamer (see list below.) Each die includes one Neck/Shoulder Bushing, which you can select from the menu before adding the die to your cart. Modular Sizing die BRA is intended for chambers reamed with a standard BRA reamer, such as the PTG (1.118 base-to-shoulder), 4D (1.120 base-to-shoulder), BR IMP AW (1.122), and SAC Match reamer (1.119 base-to-shoulder). Some C.I.P. “BR Ackley Improved” reamers do NOT use the same base-to-shoulder length and will not size in our die. The Modular sizing die sizes more at the base and less at the shoulder compared to traditional resizing dies Made from 17-4 H1150 Stainless steel that is then nitrided to obtain the utmost lubricity Made in the USA If you have questions about compatibility with your reamer, please email us at [email protected]. “The Modular Sizing Die” design uniquely sizes the cartridge’s body geometry through the die body, and sizes the cartridge’s shoulder and neck geometry through a “Neck / Shoulder Bushing”. This lets one die body serve the entire cartridge family. Additionally, the Modular Sizing Dies are precisely machined with a focus on correctly sizing fired brass. These dies will size the cartridge’s base slightly more than the shoulder, ensuring proper fit and performance. After studying precision CNC machines and tooling, we designed the Modular Sizing Die with shallow tapers, not threads, to perfectly center and secure the Solid Decapping Pin. This tapered geometry ensures unmatched concentricity and repeatability. We also crafted the die’s sizing geometry to size slightly more at the base and slightly less at the shoulder compared to most resizing dies on the market. This approach reduces extraction issues in properly sized rifle chambers. Our design minimizes case runout and prevents overworking of the brass by controlling shoulder sizing. Modular Sizing Die Assembly Modular Sizing Die Body: Standard 7/8 x 14 threads, 17-4 Stainless Steel with a Special Salt Bath Nitride finish for increased lubricity and performance. Universal Solid Decapping Pin: Made from 1144 Stress Proof Steel for high strength, with a .058” nominal diameter tip that fits small primer flash-holes. Adjust the Solid Decapping Pin to your preferred tip protrusion by positioning the wide-mouth retaining clip. Knurled ER11 Top Cap: ¾ x 24 Threads secure the Knurled ER11 Top Cap into the die body, compressing the supplied ER11 collet to securely hold the Decapping Pin or Expander Mandrel, ensuring optimal concentricity. ER11 Collet: Commercially available ER11 collet holds various Decapping Pin and Expander Mandrel diameters. Taper Adapter: The Knurled ER11 Top Cap threads into the die body, seating the ER11 Collet into the Taper Adapter, which in turn holds the Decapping Pin or Expander Mandrel. The Taper Adapter sits just above the Neck/Shoulder Sizing Bushing, allowing the bushing to float. Neck / Shoulder Bushings: Available in a variety of caliber-specific neck diameters. Use .001” shims above the Neck/Shoulder Bushing to adjust headspace without threading the die in or out, similar to traditional dies. Follow These Steps to Set Up Your Short Action Customs Modular Sizing Die Clean the inside of the resizing die to remove any debris. We recommend using a .40 caliber plastic pistol brush with a 12-gauge shotgun patch for thorough cleaning. Assemble your Modular die as shown in the image below. With the press ram fully raised, thread the resizing die into the top of the reloading press until it touches the shell holder. Lower the ram and thread the die down slightly to achieve a slight “cam over” with the press. Tighten the die body lock ring. For the Area 419 Zero Press, turn the die approximately 1/8″ further after it touches the shell holder. Using a headspace comparator that contacts the brass shoulder, establish the fired brass headspace. Lubricate a piece of clean, fired brass and cycle it through the Modular Sizing Die with a smooth, consistent ram stroke. Measure the sized brass and compare it to the fired brass. We suggest reducing the fired brass headspace by .001”-.003” for most applications. To adjust sized brass headspace, thread the die body into the press more or less. We also recommend Redding Competition Shell Holders. Another option is to add or remove custom .001″ shims between the “Neck/Shoulder Bushing” and “Taper Adapter”.
