This versatility allows one die body to serve the entire cartridge family. Additionally, each Modular Sizing Die is precision-machined with a focus on accurately sizing your fired brass. Our dies size the base of the cartridge slightly more than the shoulder. After analyzing precision CNC machines and tooling, we designed the Modular Sizing Die to use shallow tapers instead of threads to center and secure the Solid Decapping Pin accurately. This tapered geometry achieves exceptional concentricity and repeatability. The die’s sizing geometry intentionally sizes the base a bit more than the shoulder compared to other resizing dies, which helps prevent extraction issues with fired brass in properly sized chambers. Our shoulder sizing geometry minimizes case runout and reduces overworking of the brass by limiting shoulder sizing. Modular Sizing Die Assembly Modular Sizing Die Body: Standard 7/8 x 14 threads, made from 17-4 Stainless Steel, with a special Salt Bath Nitride finish that boosts lubricity and performance compared to other resizing dies. Universal Solid Decapping Pin: Constructed from high-strength 1144 Stress Proof Steel. The .058” nominal diameter pin tip fits small primer flash-holes, and you can adjust the pin tip protrusion by repositioning the wide mouth retaining clip. Knurled ER11 Top Cap: ¾ x 24 Threads securely tighten the ER11 Top Cap into the die body, compressing the included ER11 collet to hold the Decapping Pin or Expander Mandrel for maximum concentricity. ER11 Collet: This commercially available collet accommodates various Decapping Pin and Expander Mandrel diameters. Taper Adapter: The Knurled ER11 Top Cap threads into the die body to seat the ER11 Collet into the Taper Adapter, securing the Decapping Pin or Expander Mandrel. The Taper Adapter sits directly above the Neck / Shoulder Sizing Bushing, allowing the bushing to float. Neck / Shoulder Bushings: Available in multiple caliber-specific neck diameters. You can adjust headspace by placing .001” shims above the Neck/Shoulder Bushing without having to rethread the die. How to Set Up Your Short Action Customs Modular Sizing Die Clean the inside of the resizing die, removing any debris. We recommend using a .40 caliber plastic pistol brush with a 12 gauge shotgun patch. Assemble the Modular die as shown in the image below. Raise the reloading press ram completely, then screw the resizing die into the top of the press. Lower the ram, then screw the die down slightly until you feel a bit of “cam over” from the press. Tighten the die lock ring. For the Area 419 Zero Press, thread the die in about 1/8 turn after it contacts the shell holder. Use a headspace comparator that contacts the brass shoulder to determine the headspace of fired brass. Lubricate clean, fired brass, then cycle it through the Modular Sizing Die with a smooth, consistent ram stroke. Measure the sized brass and compare it to the fired brass. Reduce headspace by .001”-.003” for optimal performance. Adjust headspace by threading the resizing die body more or less into the press, or by using Redding Competition Shell Holders.
