Hooking up a voltage output transducer to a digitizer or other piece of equipment should be easy right? Too many times the signal starts to change voltage levels, gets noisy, or shows other strange behavior. This is often the result of an impedance mismatch. This means the transducer is only designed to drive a very tiny load and whatever you’ve hooked it up to is too much. Fear not! The solution is a buffer. The analog buffer and amplifier will provide a nice low impedance copy of the input signal at either a gain of 1, called a buffer, or at a higher gain which you can set by adding a resistor to the circuit board. While a simple buffer is probably the most common use, the option gain means if you need to make that signal a bit larger while you’re at it, it is easy and doesn’t require more circuit boards! If you need more capability like output offsetting or sensor excitation voltage, be sure to check out our DCDT Signal Conditioner and Load Cell Signal Conditioner.
